what we do

monthly meetings

Welcome to the Northern Virginia Regional Group. We were chartered on December 11, 1977, and held our first meeting on March 7, 1978. Our membership includes over 125 families including five of our original charter members. Although the vast majority of our members live in Northern Virginia we also have members throughout the United States and in Europe. Our members own more than 200 early V-8s, ranging in condition from trophy winning Dearborn and Rouge class vehicles to tour cars and vehicles undergoing frame-up restorations. Our members vehicles include a wide variety of Fords, Mercurys and Lincolns, from plush Continentals to utilitarian commercial vehicles, tractors and military vehicles. We’re probably the only Regional Group that at one time had three 1942 Ford Station Wagons. Many of our members regularly drive their V-8s to our club’s functions, which are always planned to include our spouses.

Living in close proximity to the Nation’s Capital, we have an abundance of places and events to chose from. Our activities include a spring Poker Run; tours to nearby scenic and tourist sites; picnics at area attractions such as the wine festival at Great Meadow; attendance at area antique car shows (including one at the Armed Forces Retirement Home which we help support with an annual donation); an overnight tour to a vintage drive-in movie theater and at least one multi-night, 350-mile round trip tour each autumn to an interesting historical site. In the past few years we’ve visited Colonial Williamsburg, President Woodrow Wilson’s birthplace in Staunton, Virginia; and the National Battlefields in Antietam, Maryland; Harpers Ferry, West Virginia and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; the C&O Canal National Park and the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in Strasburg. Each year we also host an annual antique car show in historic downtown Fairfax. Our Regional Group newsletter – Valve Clatter – has consistently won awards in the Early Ford V-8 Club’s National newsletter competitions since 1997 and also the prestigious Golden Quill award from Old Cars Weekly.

We hold our monthly general membership meetings at 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, usually at the Green Acres Center, 4401 Sideburn Rd, Fairfax, VA 22030. Our club always welcomes new members, and ownership of an old Ford is not required. All you need to do is appreciate and enjoy 1932-53 Ford, Mercury and Lincoln produced vehicles.

early v-8 national meets

In 1987, 2007 and 2017 we hosted the Early Ford V-8 Club of America’s Eastern National Meet. In addition to the traditional car show with concourse judging and touring and display classes, and a swap meet, we also provided attendees with an opportunity to take in some of the area’s major tourist attractions such as George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Old Town Alexandria and the National Air and Space Museum’s spectacular Udvar-Hazy Center displaying the Space Shuttle Enterprise, a SR-71 Blackbird, the first Boeing 707 and a Concorde SST. Numerous NVRG members also attend Eastern and Central National Meets hosted by other Regional Groups.
